Anti Virus

Bitdefender – Both paid and free edition is available, I recommend you to download the trial, and free edition is version 10, using an older technology.

AVG Free Advisor – I recommend you use this temporary, and remove it after cleaning; because it consume more resources.

Spyware Terminator – Nice interface and good to use.

Commercial version is more effective, and according to my experience Webroot Spy Sweeper and Max Secure Spy Detector are 2 of the best.
You should only install One Anti Virus at a time, scan and repair at a time and then try another Anti Virus. For Anti Spyware, you may install few at a time and try to detect any potential treat.
Anti Virus is almost the same detection rate, but Anti Spyware is definitely different. Most Anti Spyware can detect certain spyware or malware, only few can detect most of them, but you should install a few more Anti Spyware to be sure!
